NAON Privacy Policy

The National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust, and accordingly maintain the following privacy policy to protect the personal information you provide. Some of the personal information NAON collects is provided online and viewable to Members only.

What Information May Be Collected?

  1. NAON collects certain personal information from its Members to ensure that NAON records are accurate and up-to-date. This information may include:

    1. First and last name

    2. Home or office postal mailing address, including street name and name of city or town

    3. E-mail address (when provided)

    4. Telephone number(s)

    5. Fax number(s) (when provided)

    6. Personal website address (when provided)

    7. Birth date

    8. Gender

    9. Orthopaedic Certification status

    10. Nursing Credentials (when provided)

    11. Company Name and Description (when provided)

    12. Credit card information (if purchases are made) – NAON is Payment Card Industry (PCI)compliant; no credit card numbers are stored on our servers

    13. Educational background, including highest degree obtained and dates of certification or recertification by the Orthopaedic Certification Board (ONCB)

    14. Participation in NAON Educational programs

    15. Specialty interests

    16. For purchases, a record of all NAON educational products and online courses ordered or downloaded

    17. Additional information not outlined above may be collected

  1. Information from suppliers of goods and services to NAON. If NAON pays an individual or entity for services or goods rendered, an honorarium or a stipend, NAON collects at a minimum the following information as required by the Internal Revenue Service W-9 form:

    1. First and last name

    2. Home or office postal mailing address, including street name and name of city or town

    3. Tax Identification Number

  1. NAON does not knowingly collect information from children under age 13.

  1. NAON encrypts sensitive personal data, such as credit card information, while being processed on the Internet. Credit card information is transmitted securely using SSL encryption.

  1. The NAON website is not set up to track, collect or distribute personal information about its visitors. It does recognize the home server of visitors, but not e-mail addresses. For example, in the non-password protected areas of the orthonurse.org web site, NAON can determine which Internet service provider our visitors use, but not the names, addresses or other information about our visitors that would allow us to identify the particular visitors to our sites. Once a member or customer logs into the orthonurse.org web site, it is possible to determine which areas of the web site they visited.

How will this Personal Information Be Used?

  1. Personal information may be used for internal NAON purposes by authorized NAON staff.

  1. Personal information will not be released to third parties except as noted below:

    1. Upon request, NAON may provide the names and postal mailing addresses of its Members to orthopaedic specialty societies that are members of our partner organizations. (e.g. Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Board and the NAON Foundation)

    2. Upon request, for a fee, NAON may provide the names and postal mailing addresses of its Members to not-for-profit organizations whose missions are consistent with the mission of the NAON. The mailing is subject to the approval of NAON and the organization agrees to use the list only once. Use of this information to compile mailing lists–for any purpose–is expressly prohibited.

    3. NAON makes available the NAON Membership Directory at no charge on the Internet to NAON Members. Annual Meeting registration lists are available for to exhibitors in advance of and after the Annual Meeting. In addition, certain personal information, including the registrant’s name, postal mailing address, hospital affiliation and practice focus, is available at the Annual Meeting to exhibitors through a "lead retrieval system" mechanism.

    4. NAON may provide the names, postal mailing addresses, and telephone and Fax numbers of NAON Members to third party organizations with whom NAON has contracted to provide courses, goods or services.

    5. NAON may provide the names and postal mailing addresses to companies who have paid a fee for the mailing list. NAON allows all members the opportunity to “opt-out” of this mailing list in their member profiles.

  1. At the current time, we are aware of no other circumstances under which NAON will provide personal information collected online to third parties.

Can the Personal Information Be Viewed and/or Corrected?

NAON encourages its Members as well as its Customers to update and correct their personal information regularly online. A review and update section is included on the NAON web site under the My Profile (http://www.orthonurse.org/p/us/sn section to make these changes.

How Long will the Personal Information Be Retained?

NAON retains personal information regarding NAON Members and customers indefinitely.

Permission to Disseminate the Personal Information/Opt Out of its Being Disseminated?

NAON allows members to “opt-out” of dissemination of purchased mailing list by third parties. There is currently no other mechanism for members and customers to opt out of other dissemination as described in this policy.
